Bellator and UFC both had events this weekend. We have another Dagestani champ and some monsters on the loose in both organizations. The Derrick Lewis fight fell through, but there were plenty of good fights and guys to look out for in the future.

Last night there was a crowning of a new middleweight champ. Somehow he only has 5 professional MMA fights and was able to KO a guy people considered one of the best to do it at 185 since Anderson Silva. This fight highlights the problem with UFC controlling rank and title. How can we be sure these champs are actually any good? Several fight events were going on this weekend, but I could only catch the UFC and BKFC events. The cards were pretty ho-hum overall, with a lot of "fun size" fights. I have a harder time enjoying the fun-size fights than the king-size ones, so maybe I am a little biased on how good the cards were. Let me know your thoughts in the chat. I'll give priority to the super chats, of course. If we have time in the end, I want to talk about Jake Paul and his claims to want to help MMA fighters.

I was camping with the boys this weekend and didn't catch any of the fights. I did make some observations about basic fitness levels while doing a three-mile hike. It was interesting to see how people handled the workload. I'll give you my thoughts about what I saw and the importance of staying fit.

Bellator 185 went down in Ireland Friday night, and they had some great fights. Floyd Mayweather had an exhibition boxing match in Japan on Saturday night also.
